Aachen is located in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the Northwest area of Germany, near to the Belgium border.

It is said that Charlemagne chose Aachen because he wanted to expand his kingdom. It is also rumored that he chose this location because of its hot springs and Aachen’s close proximity to the Black Forest where Charlemagne liked to hunt, but it is unclear if this is true. It is also believed that the hot springs hold healing powers.
